Bioengineering (or biomedical engineering) is a career- either in research or manufacturing, that focuses on the development, design, and evaluation of effectiveness of such things as artificial organs, measuring equipment, prostheses, and the like.
I just find the places it is going in recent years, and the concept as a whole fascinating. I have far less reservations about the concepts of prostheses that could provide sensation, or the recent work with tissue decellularization to recreate organs, than with… AI, for example. I think of a lot of biology as having many connections with engineering, anyway- in that we learn from what nature does, and how it constructs things to specific purposes when we make things ourselves! The practical aspects of it are a little less certain: mostly in that “could I possibly contribute to this with my executive dysfunction” sort of way. But given time, I will see, and I will learn!
